If you are looking out for a day or two mountain hike near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh then Thatipudi is where you should head do. Thatipudi lake is around 75 km from Visakhapatnam towards the road to Arakku valley. The lake has been formed by building a dam between two mountains whereas from all other sides it is surrounded by other mountains of the Ananthgiri range. River Gosthani flows into this lake carrying all the water of the catchment areas.

Thatipudi

The best location to enjoy the beauty of this scenic place is from the far end opposite to the dam. ‘Thatipudi Cottages’ of the forest department here comprise of just few rooms available on daily charge. The location is very remote and can be reached only after 8 km drive on a Kachha county road full of dips and stones. The cottage is built on basement of a hilllock and ‘Giri Vinayak Temple is located on top of the same hillock.

Boats used to ply till year 2017 from the dam to Thatipudi Cottages. However the service has been stopped due to safety concerns.

Those fond of hiking can reach the place after trekking for around an hour from the dam. If you plan to pitch a tent it can be done on the lake bed (if water level of lake is low) but it is not advisable in monsoon season.
