India got it’s own GoT ice wall

Well, for all of you who had their eyes popping out at the sight of that virtual reality created artificial ice wall in Game of Thrones series, hold and listen out, India has its own ice wall.

Yes it is true. The centuries old Meerathang Glacier in Arunachal Pradesh stands tall at close to 120 feet high. The glacier formed by deposition and crystallization of ice for more than thousand years is a mesmerizing sight.

Meerathang Glacier, Arunachal Pradesh

Located at Thingbu Tehsil of Tawang District (Arunachal Pradesh), this place is totally isolated and tourist footfall is negligible. The ice wall can only be accessed after covering a distance of around 24 km from the nearest village. The trek is very arduous but indeed rewarding with its breath taking views. There are suitable locations enroute to undertake overnight camping. For those who can undertake climbing an ice wall (of course you would need ice axe, crampons, safety harness etc) this wall provides various elevations from 30 degrees slope to 90 degree vertical wall.
